Albizia julibrissin 'Tropical Dream' is an abundantly flowering tree that has large numbers of pink panicles on stalks. It starts to bloom in July and continues until mid-September, with new flowers opening every day. Albizia is also known as the 'sleeping tree' because its delicate, fern-like leaves close like a Buddha's hands every evening. Tropical Dream was selected as the best from a group of seedlings from the higher regions surrounding Seoul (South Korea). The plant is therefore hardy without the need for protection. The tree blooms after two years and can reach a height of 5 to 6 m if not pruned. After 10 years, annual pruning promotes flowering. Tropical Dream is the longest blooming, hardy, small tree for cooler climates. The plant was bred by Johan Possemiers from Brecht, Belgium, and is protected under plant breeding legislation. Van Vliet New Plants from Stroe submitted the plant and also introduced it on the market.
